About

ALIGNED is a research and innovation project within the Software and Services, Cloud Unit (E2) of the European Commission. ALIGNED aims at developing models, methods and tools for engineering information systems based on co-evolving software and web data. Tools for model-driven software evolution based on Linked Data sources, runtime data quality analytics, human data curation and process integration will aid more efficient governance, increased agility and higher productivity.

ALIGNED has four use cases. Each use case is a large-scale, real-world project with large user communities and development needs. One of the case studies is called “Seshat: The Global History Databank”. This part is about creating large datasets describing world history and archaeology. For the realization of the task are responsible scientists from the University of Oxford (UK) and Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (Poland).

The Seshat is a kind of global history databank. It is an open repository of expert-curated historical time-series data. Seshat extracts the data from a combination of databases, Linked Data, web-sites, academic publications and human experts.

This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programmeunder grant agreement No 644055. It started in February 2015 and completes in January 2018.One can read more about the project here.
