About

NEARCH: New Scenarios for Community-involved archaeology is a European project funded by the European Commission under the Culture Programme. Led by the French institution „INRAP” it gathers scientists from eight countries: France, Poland, Italy, Spain, Holland, Greece, UK and Germany to create new ways of functioning of archaeology in Europe.

The project in some extent is a continuation of a recent EU-supported project entitled „Archaeology in Contemporary Europe” (ACE, 2007-2012) which analyses and evaluated the situation of archaeology in Europe in reference to the economic crisis which also impacted archaeological profession. The NEARCH project purpose is to assess the crisis’ implications in the fields of archaeology and heritage, and to propose new ways of working and interacting. The project also explores the different dimensions of public participation as well as the multi-scalar significance of archaeological heritage intertwined with different processes underway in today’s Europe.
